The eagle has landed. Finally. Zion was 2 weeks late in coming, technically not late because after doing some research on the internet we learned that a newborn isn't considered overdue until after the 42nd week. That would have been today, Sunday.
We have to admit we were a little worried about complications because the pregnancy was so prolonged- something we aren't used to. Rivka was 3 days late, Hosanna was 3 days early. We wanted to avoid having to go to the hospital if at all possible, and Zion came through for us. Earlier in the day on Friday, we had a visit with our midwife and she took the vital signs and measurements. We scheduled an ultrasound for 8am the next morning.
That night at about 12 midnight Carly started having serious contractions. We threw the girls and their stuff in the car and took them over to stay with Ryan and Lyndee Lee- a real pair of life savers.
At 2 we were at the birth center in Pasadena Texas and at 3:19 the little guy was born! Jackie Griggs, our midwife, thought that the labor was going to last a little bit longer because Carly was so peppy in between contractions- for sure this couldn't be true labor. Carly explains that she was just so excited to finally be in labor after being strung along for 4 weeks (4 weeks ago we had our first false start- labor contractions that lasted about 3 hours).
So for these few days we are trying to get to know our little guy and figure out how to keep him content. Life has been a little rockier than it was with Hosanna or Rivka. He has a really big mouth and isn't afraid to use it. As for looks, we think he is another cast out of the Rivka mold. You decide. That first picture is standing next to the bulletin board at the entrance to our marina. Welcome baby Zion!
