Young Love

While picking up Rivka from kindergarten I noticed how happy and relaxed she seemed. And she kept sighing dreamily...

I asked about her day at school, like I always do, and she told me that her and Blake were boyfriend and girlfriend.

"Since when???"

"Today."

"How did that happen????"

"We are in love so now we are boyfriend and girlfriend."

At this point I am trying to recall all the movies she has seen lately- I mean where is this stuff coming from?? I even asked her where she learned that.

"I didn't learn it, Mom, thats just the way it is."

I asked her what was so special about Blake. He has been one of her best friends for months but what in the world did he do to merit all the sighing and talk of love?

"Today in recess he picked a flower for me so I blew him lots of kisses and now we are in love." (She tells me not in a matter-of-fact voice but as if she is reading me a fairy-tale)

"So if Mark (the obnoxious kid she hates- name changed for privacy) had picked a flower for you then he would be your boyfriend?"

"Yes! Exactly!"

The following several days the sighing continued and at random points throughout the day she would pause and say dreamily "Mom, it is so fun to be in love!"

Their relationship seems to still be going strong. She was thrilled when he whispered in her ear that his favorite color is pink.

Today the story is that Austin kissed her on the lips while they played tag, but she thought that was silly since she is Blake's girlfriend.

I'm trying to mostly ignore all this foolishness. It will pass. It will pass. (right??)
